Helping small businesses access global markets
A trade development programme developed by LeaderGen to increase trade flows with Kenya by mobilising and harnessing the influential network of Chevening Alumni will now be rolled out into the rest of East Africa, in addition to India in 2011.
Funded by the UK Foreign office, the LeaderSet programme has generated over £20 million of contracts in just ten months, by capacity building small businesses in emerging markets to get them export ready and then connecting them with UK businesses with whom they can do business, as well as providing them with an experienced business mentor to guide them all the way.
LeaderSet will now be rolled out globally as a new international trade service for small and medium sized enterprises called Trade Winz - more details here. This new service will take the legwork out of winning new exports by sourcing contracts for SMEs in emerging and developed countries, and supporting them in delivery.
International trade is one of the most effective tools for accelerating growth, and recession proofing any business. The new Trade Winz service will provide a unique and unparalleled opportunity for small businesses to access new markets, and improve their leadership and business management skills.
Leadergen CEO Marilyn Comrie OBE adds “Trade Winz is the solution to every small business’ prayer who has ever dreamed of going global. Many small businesses lack the confidence and knowledge to become successful exporters, as well as those all important contacts that make the difference.
Trade Winz will provide an essential handholding service to get small and medium sized businesses export ready, and then source best-fit contracts for which they have the capacity to deliver. Trade winz team of experienced mentors will remain with the business until it finds its feet and is strong enough to make it on its own. There is nothing like it anywhere in the world”.
One of the beneficiaries of the service is BPL Ltd run by Paul Ochieng, who were helped to source the technology they needed to bring broadband to rural communities in Kenya. The company now intends to expand into Rwanda and Tanzania.
Said Paul “I was very happy and eager to work with the UK company that LeaderGen had sourced. We are a new start up company and sourcing the technology to make our business dreams a reality, has made all the difference. It is now out intention to work with this company throughout the entire East African Community area”
