Catalysing Community Cohesion

LEADERGEN CEO KEYNOTE SPEECH

Marilyn Comrie OBELeaderGen CEO Marilyn Comrie OBE is a keynote speaker at a trailblazing conference for headteachers   that seeks to radically transform the role of schools in the community, as a catalyst for raising educational standards in Manchester schools.

Leadership and Learning for the 21st Century School which takes place on the 20th & 21st May 2010 is a unique opportunity for school leaders to develop and practice innovative thinking to overcome the complex social and environmental problems that impact on pupil performance  in many inner city schools.

In line  with the Government’s White Paper ( Your child, Your School, Our Future 2009 ), the two day conference will feature workshops and presentations from recognised leaders in the field of transformational leadership & innovation.

Marilyn, who is currently innovating a workforce development programme to equip frontline staff in North Manchester with the skills & confidence to  reduce community tensions in areas of conflict, will put forward radical ideas on how schools can become agents for transformation by opening up their doors to facilitate adult learning and empowerment in areas of high deprivation.

The mother of two teenage boys, Marilyn is a keen supporter of the collaborative partnership approach for schools now being advocated.

It has long been recognised that pupil performance is dependant on a number of environmental and social factors. If you can raise parental aspirations, motivate and equip them with pragmatic problem solving and personal leadership skills to transform their lives and well being, this will have a significant impact on the educational attainment and aspirations of their children.

There is much good work being done in Manchester schools to raise children’s self esteem and embed a culture of achievement. But this needs to be reinforced in the home for lasting impact. This conference is a response to this need”.

She added: " It is personally very exciting and rewarding to be part of something that could make a real and lasting difference to so many people's lives. It is about giving people hope and a helping hand in taking take those crucial first steps out of poverty and despiar, into the light of their true and innate potential that's just waiting to be tapped".
